An Abstract Expressionist Diptych by Satyajit Roy

Forest Dialogues — I & II is a powerful two-part exploration of the Indian woodland landscape through the language of Abstract Expressionism. Rather than depicting a forest literally, Satyajit Roy translates its energy into vigorous strokes, fragmented forms, layered textures and a vibrant interplay of turquoise blue, ochre, yellow, crimson, black, white and earthy tones.

The paintings evoke the sensation of moving through a dense forest—where light breaks through the canopy, branches intersect, shadows shift and nature appears in constant motion. The spontaneous marks and richly worked surfaces reveal the physicality of the artist’s process, giving the works an unmistakably personal character.

Together, the two canvases create a visual conversation between light and earth, openness and density, stillness and movement. They celebrate nature not as a static landscape, but as a living, emotional experience.
