Finding a New Canvas: Reflecting on the ‘Art for Life’ Exhibition in Kolkata

Art, much like the vast oceans, has a way of commanding your entire being. For over two decades, my life was defined by the discipline, precision, and adrenaline of serving in the Indian Navy’s fighter aircraft squadrons and warships. But as I have come to realize, passion does not end with retirement; it simply finds a new canvas.

I was deeply honored to share my creative journey at the 3rd edition of the Art for Life exhibition, organized by Ekspokon. The event took place at the prestigious CII – Suresh Neotia Centre of Excellence for Leadership (DC-36, Sector I, Salt Lake, Kolkata – 700064), a space that beautifully fosters innovation, leadership, and culture.

Ahead of the event, the organizers shared a wonderful Exhibitor Spotlight feature (which you can see in the accompanying image_ee8665.jpg) that perfectly captured the spirit of this transition from a veteran to a contemporary abstract artist.

The Convergence of Two Worlds

Stepping into the gallery space at the Suresh Neotia Centre felt like a natural continuation of my journey. People often ask me how a career defined by military structure translates into the fluid, expressive world of abstract art. To me, they are deeply intertwined. The immense power of the sea, the dynamic movement of aviation, and the striking textures of maritime environments have always lived in my mind—now, they find expression through oil and acrylic on canvas.

This exhibition was a reflection of my “Art For Living” philosophy. I have always believed that creativity is not just a hobby, but a profound pathway to holistic wellness and human connection. Seeing visitors stand before my large-scale abstract pieces, engaging with the textures, and interpreting the themes of heritage and nature through their own lenses was incredibly rewarding.

A Heartfelt Thank You

The energy in Salt Lake over those days was nothing short of inspiring. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to:

  • The Ekspokon Team: Thank you for organizing a seamless event and for highlighting my journey so beautifully in your spotlight feature (referenced in image_ee8665.jpg).
  • The CII Suresh Neotia Centre: For providing a world-class venue that serves as a brilliant backdrop for contemporary art.
  • The Visitors, Friends, and Fellow Artists: Your insights, warm conversations, and shared appreciation for the arts are what drive me to keep pushing the boundaries of my studio, ArtDecore.

Every exhibition opens up a new dialogue, and this one has left me with a renewed sense of purpose as I prepare for upcoming national and international projects.
